The Lake Erie Swim

The Course:

The course will be a simple two buoy course. Triathletes will execute a beach start on a sandy beach with a gradual slope. Swimmers will swim out a short distance and turn ninety degrees around the first buoy, then swim parallel to shore to the second buoy, one-half mile away. Swimmers will round the second buoy and return the entry point on the beach to complete their one mile swim leg.

The direction of the course (east to west) will be determined by the direction of the surface current on the morning of the event. For maximum safety, swimmers will swim against the current for the first half-mile. In this manner, swimmers will benefit from the current on the return portion of their swim.

Swim Contingency:

84 Miles

Eighty four miles of cycling bliss. You'll experience the vibrance and natural energy of Springtime in the Ohio countryside . As you depart Geneva State Park, your bike route will quickly turn southward, away from Lake Erie. The vast majority of the 28 mileloop boasts smooth asphalt road surfaces and flat topography.

Aid stations will be located approximately every ten miles along the bike course, offering water, sports drink and gels provided by HAMMER Nutrition.

This is a 3-loop course, giving you the opportunity to learn the curves, build speed, and hammer away the 84 miles 'til your heart's content.

The Lake Erie Run


The highlight of your 15 mile run will be the sandy beach town strip that follows the shore of Lake Erie through Geneva-on-the-Lake. This town recalls a simpler time when a Coney Island hot dog, getting stuck at the top of the ferris wheel and the rumble of hot rods cruising the boulevard were the makings for a beach weekend of endless possibilities. Soak in the electric energy of an adolescent summer as you stretch your legs through Geneva-on-the-Lake.

Beyond the buzz of the town, the run course is flat and tranquil, stretching from the secluded and tree lined running paths of Geneva State Park to the lake front homes and five star properties that line the lake shore along the Great Lakes Seaway Trail. On the return portion of your run, you'll enjoy stunning views of the lake as you outpace the sunset with every step toward your triumphant 100 Mile finish in Geneva State Park.

Aid stations will provide water, sports drink, gel and bananas every 1 mile on the run course.

The Lake Erie Duathlon


Land lovers are welcome with open arms to the Great Lakes 100 Mile Duathlon division. Simply check the duathlon box on the registration page and pack your favorite running shoes. You'll enjoy a one mile run on an asphalt path through the trees of Geneva State Park before mounting your two wheeled steed and heading off with the rest of the 100 Mile Triathlon field for your 84 mile bike tour of the Ohio countryside. You will also be treated to the 15 mile run along Lake Erie's shore and a visit to the beachy Geneva-on-the-Lake before you return to Geneva State Park to claim your finisher medal.

Swim Contingency Plan

In the unlikely event that the swim leg is unable to be executed for safety concerns, all athletes will be directed to the 100 Mile Duathlon course.
